Oasis - Events
Consider Participating in...
Oasis or the
TBLG Concerns
Committee
For those of you who might be interested in being part of our renewed TBLG Concerns Committee
and/or those who might be interested in working with Oasis or participating in Oasis-sponsored events. . .
There is a real interest in having a broader TBLG Concerns Committee which will work
to advocate within congregations, the Diocese, and the broader community around TBLG Concerns.
The TBLG Concerns Committee will meet at least four times a year. Our hope would be that we would have one or more representatives from
at least twenty or thirty parishes in the Diocese. We are in the process of setting up a TBLG Concerns
email group to facilitate communication in between meetings. If you would like to be on the TBLG Concerns
Committee please send me your name and contact information (including your email address) and if you
are affiliated with a particular parish and/or organization.
Many are interested in reaching out through liturgy and community-building.
We hope that different parishes will host Oasis services as a way of signaling their support for TBLG
individuals, couples, and families in their respective communities. Those interested in hearing about
these services are asked to sign up to be on the Oasis email group. To facilitate this kind of ministry
throughout the Diocese the Oasis Board is also looking for Board members from other parts of the Diocese.
The Oasis Board meets monthly. If you might be interested in serving on the Board please let us know.
There are plans to organize a series of events which might combine some kind of program with
a liturgy and/or a meal. In Ann Arbor we organized a "Feast for the Beloved" for TBLG individuals,
couples, families and their allies which drew 180 people and included both a meal and speakers on both the
recent Appeals Court Ruling on Proposition II and the Anglican Primates Communiqué. If your parish wishes
to host such an event we would be happy to arrange it.
Recent actions taken by our national church and by various bodies around our state including the Ann Arbor School
Board, MSU, and U of M, testify to a growing refusal to participate in discrimination. We teach our children that
in any bullying situation those witnessing the bullying are often those who can intervene most effectively. As a
church we need to boldly confront the kind of bullying we’ve witnessed recently in our state. We also need to
provide spaces for healing, renewal and empowerment for those whom bullying of any kind has discouraged or
frightened. If you would like to be part of this work please fill out the TBLG Concerns Response Form.
